Meet Ms. Cecily Bernard
Ms. Bernard serves as the President for The Language Institute Inc (TLI).
Founder and Managing Director of the Language Institute Inc. since its inception in November 2000, Ms. Bernard is an accomplished language professional with sixteen (16) years experience in the areas of interpreting, translation and foreign language training working in the languages of the South American continent. She has served over the years as an independent consultant for local public and private corporations as well as regional and international institutions both home and abroad.
Ms. Bernard also serves as the Guyana Representative of the Bakke Graduate University, headquartered in Seattle, Washington with a global presence in thirty-nine countries and is presently a Doctoral Candidate in the area of Transformational Leadership with a focus on Organizational Development. Widely travelled with six and a half years residency in Latin America and eight years public service in both national and regional diplomatic institutions, Ms. Bernard possesses vast intercultural experience and exposure.
A proven entrepreneur, who has successfully navigated the Institute through start up to establishment, Ms. Bernard has always maintained her focus on the vision of creating a world class business while serving her staff, community, nation and region. To this end, she has sought to consistently upgrade her skills in key areas such as Entrepreneurship Training, Marketing, Financial Planning and Analysis, Business and Diplomatic Protocol and Servant Leadership.
Ms. Bernard considers herself a pioneer and advocate in the exciting field of language services in her country, who has been raised up for a time such as this to lead with excellence and to source and access needed opportunities for language professionals like herself who desire to enjoy rewards for their efforts similar to those being enjoyed by colleagues in other more developed parts of the world.
Ms. Bernard holds a Master of Arts Degree in International Relations from the University of Brasília, Brazil, with an unpublished dissertation in the Portuguese language: “The Republic of Guyana and the World: Basic Tenets for an Insertion into the New International Context”; a Preliminary Degree in French (CPLF; DEF; DSEF) from the Alliance Française of Belém & Brasília in association with the University of Nancy, France and a Licentiate Degree (Degree combining Trained Teacher's certificate - secondary level and full Bachelor of Arts programme) in Portuguese Language & Literature from the University of Pará, Brazil.
In the context of community and organizational outreach, Ms. Bernard has served as the interim President of the Georgetown Chapter of the EMPRETEC Guyana Business Forum and Member of the EMPRETEC National Network. She is also the former President of the Translators’ and Interpreters’ Association of Guyana and Member of the Guyana Association of Modern Language Teachers (GAMLAT). As part of her community responsibilities, she is a member in good standing and former Church Secretary and Member of Local Board of Administration of the Wesleyan Church, Charlotte Street, Bourda.
