Meet Mr. Fred Collins
Mr. Collins serves as Director of HR & Training and Freelance Translator.
Mr. Collins, a former life insurance executive and HR practitioner rose to the level of Director / Corporate Secretary in his previous company. His experience in this field runs the gamut of negotiations with unions to the selection of employees, to the design and facilitation of soft skills development programs.
He holds a Degree in Mathematics from the University of Guyana, a Diploma in Life Office Management from the Life Office Management Association of Atlanta, Georgia, and a certificate in the use of the ROI methodology in training evaluation from PRO (now the ROI Institute). He has also spent many years as a mathematics teacher, but currently confines his mathematical knowledge to deploying formulas in MS Excel.
However, it is the study of languages to which he is most dedicated. He is considered a polyglot, speaking Portuguese, Spanish, and to some degree, French and Dutch. He graduated from the Centre of Brazilian Studies in Guyana in 1975 and did further language courses at the University of Guyana, continuing his language development over the years.
Mr. Collins has been a free-lance translator and editor with TLI and also EFL as a tutor/coordinator since 2010. His observation has been that the Spanish and Portuguese speaking students are always more comfortable resorting to their native tongue when struggling with a foreign language.
On a personal level he has held the position of National Scrabble Champion for a number of years up until 2009 and is currently the Regional (Caribbean) Scrabble Champion.
